Archive Loop with separate filter and sorting

For event lists etc, it would be nice to have a separate filter and sorting mechanism.

For example filter all posts by "end-date" -> today and in feature, and sorting all these posts by start-date...so if an ongoing event is fro like a month, it stays on top and doesn't just appear by end-date at the and of month.
